This is an hourly position responsible under general supervision, performs a variety of custodial and facilities maintenance duties to maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of assigned rooms, buildings, at the Police Department. Responsible for mechanical equipment, cleaning, floor care, landscaping, mowing and snow removal. Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain police security clearance. Position requires confidentiality and privacy of records and defendants. Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace.

 The City of Berkeley is accepting applications for the position Custodian at the Police Department. Applicant will work under the director to the Superintendent.

 The incumbent must be able to perform the following duties without assistance:

 Pick up litter each day around the perimeter of the building and grounds; sweep, scrub, wax; floors; vacuum and clean rugs and carpets; clean restrooms; empty and clean waste receptacles, clean prisoner cells, toilets and showers, wash and dust windows, walls, and blinds. Perform minor maintenance and repairs on equipment or buildings such as replacing light bulbs, fixing doors, and painting. Check buildings for security; inspect buildings for safety, fire, and sanitary hazards. Operate a variety of electrical cleaning equipment; maintain and order custodial equipment and supplies. Perform various tasks in moving or rearranging furniture, desks and other equipment; set up room for meetings. Answer general questions from the City staff on custodial issues. Perform related duties as required.

The successful applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent. An Associate Degree in Building Maintenance Technology is preferred.
